History of AMSP
In the mid 1980’s, there were a few ISO companies in the Mid-Atlantic Region that were each servicing their customers with General Radiographic and Film Processing.  Each had varying background specialties but basically all competing for the same business in the same areas.  Sometimes their services would overlap or they would individually quote products or services to the same customers.  Often they would discuss the business trends and seek ways to mutually expand their individual companies in a highly competitive market.  Their frequent contact with one another led to discussions on how they could help each other and yet still maintain their respective geographical service areas.  Thus, the early formation of the AMSP was in its infant stage.

The CEO from each company met in Philadelphia for a discussion.  Ernie Pisciotti, Universal Medical Services in the Pittsburgh, PA area; Ron Laird, Brandywine Imaging in South Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware,; Ed Ravenkamp, Garden State Imaging servicing Philadelphia and New Jersey; Rich Stock, Radiological Imaging Services, South Eastern Pennsylvania and areas North of Philadelphia; and Sal Aidone, Deccaid Services servicing New York and New Jersey.

These early meetings set the framework for a formal organization that would meet their needs.  They would respect each others’ territorial areas, help one another with technical assistance and service manuals, provide an additional source for used parts and equipment and take advantage of each others’ dealerships as best as dealerships would allow.

After many meetings they incorporated in 1986 to formalize their handshake agreements.  It was still many meetings later before their bylaws were solidified, thanks in large part to Chris Schaefer, Deccaid Services, who authored the first bylaws.  Ernie Pisciotti was the first President of the Association of Medical Services Providers.

Today, membership exists across the United States.  This extensive membership has developed a strategy that allows AMSP to effectively negotiate and compete with the OEM’s and national ISO’s.  AMSP members pool their sales and service capabilities together to enhance their individual businesses.  Members exchange engineers for assistance, coexisting within the same accounts without fear of loss of servicing existing assets under contract.  Modalities now include CT, MRI, Ultrasound, PACS and other services in this new digital age of medical technology.  Members gain from Group Purchasing, Multi-Vendor Support, Technical Training and extensive exchange of growth potential.
